Salzburg Festival Opens Leadership Search

The Salzburg Festival has opened the application process for its Intendant (the artistic director of an opera house or festival) and President positions. This transition will define the festival's artistic direction for the next decade, following a period of significant expansion and fiscal stability. The search occurs as the festival faces increasing pressure to balance its traditional role as a high-art sanctuary with the demands of modern touring circuits and digital accessibility. The outcome will determine whether Salzburg continues to function as a production house for original repertoire or moves toward the 'curated' model prevalent in the post-pandemic festival landscape.
